VAD 2011 is done for the year, discussions for next year are already going on.

The main idea was not to just do a show ABOUT Vets, but FOR Vets, and it is hoped this concept will grow.

Not only was there free rides for the Vets, but in the Museum Center with the Model Show, an area was setup with free food and places to rest or talk. No one was turned away. A "kid play" table was setup, so kids could play with some toys that suited the overall theme of the day's events.

Several military vehicles, weapons ( some "fired" via propane ), uniforms, and reenactors were active all along the street and grounds near the train station.

Later, at the USO Dance, free food and drink was again provided by local eateries, and there was plenty of it. There was no charge, only buckets in place for free will donations.

The LM&M Railroad paid for the live Band, Pulled Pork BBQ was provided by Porky Capone, Lasagna by Doc's Place, Meat Balls by Patriot Steakhouse, many baked goods and treats were made and provided by Girl Scout Troops 1472 and 4823, and pizza, drinks, and other goodies were provided by volunteers and friends of the show. Banners were provided by Dickerson Distributing.

Final numbers aren't at my fingertips yet as I post this, but at least $500 was raised for the USO as last reported at the USO Dance.

One group riding the train with their Veteran father, told LM&M personnel that he talked about his time in the war and the Service as they rode along, something he had never done before for as long as they can remember. A "Welcome Home Vets" fanfare ended each train ride back into Lebanon.

I hope after I sort through through all of the video, you will get a better feel for the total event, and perhaps you will consider being a part of things next year.

Could you straighten up a bit? People are starting to stare......
